Stihl M251cbe Chainsaw Chain
If you just purchased a new Stihl chainsaw, it's a good idea to break it in before using it for any cutting projects. Immediately using it to cut anything, particularly very heavy or dense wood, can ruin the chain. Although Stihl chains are prestretched, running a new chainsaw through a short break-in period helps smooth any small imperfections and allows the chain to settle into the rivets properly, according to Stihl's publication 'Sharp Advice for Chainsaw Owners.'
1
Increase the flow of oil if your new Stihl chainsaw's automatic oiler is adjustable. If your model has an adjustable oiler, find the small screw on the saw's underside, below an icon that pictures a droplet above a cutting tooth. Turn the screw clockwise with a flat-head screwdriver to increase the oil flow.
2
Start your Stihl chainsaw's engine, and allow it to run at a low speed without cutting anything for about three minutes.

3
Turn off the chainsaw's engine. Wait for the chain to stop moving completely.
4
Loosen the cutting bar mounting nuts on the side of the cutting bar. The cutting bar is the part on which the chain sets. Untighten the nuts to the point that the bar's nose can move up and down somewhat. Pull up the bar's nose, and tighten the chain adjusting screw on the side of the chainsaw until you can pull the chain freely by hand.
5
Check the chain's tension by lifting the chain from the bar's middle, The chain's drive links should stay in the grooves of the bar. If they don't, then tighten the bar mounting nuts while holding up the saw's nose.
6
Examine the chain's tension one last time before running the saw's engine again. Do so by lifting the chain and seeing whether or not the drive links stay positioned in the bar grooves, which they should do. Tighten the bar mounting nuts again if necessary and recheck the chain's tension.
