Almere, Netherlands, the - edited December 2010I have the same problem, I tried that solution but it didnt work
- edited December 2010I also have this problem. Appcrash. Usually when I have given a unit orders on the campaign map, (sending him into a building), but also when selecting a ship.
Edit: I have also tried the larger memory addressing, both in 32 and 64 bit modes. It still acts the same.FX 83508GB 1600 RAMHow much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it? - edited December 2010Installed or incompletely uninstalled mods can have the same effect.Iscaran

If you need help with a support request on these boards please read this and follow the instructions. - edited December 2010Sorry for my late reply on the fixing but. it did work. if you use vista or Windows 7 go to
startmenu typ in the search CMD ->
a black screen should open enter -> bcdedit increaseuserva 2500 ( or 3000 )
it should say it has done this.
reboot pc. and your random crash to desktop is fixed
and another thing i did was lower the resolution. for some reason the resolution is automatically set on the highest setting. witch shouldn't be a problem with graphic card with 1024 MB or higher memory.
BUT NOW!!! i have a different problem. after playing for what.. a month without crashes now i am almost at achieving victory in the grand campaign my save file wont start anymore. it's starts loading and then just crashes back to desktop now i have searched the internet for 2 days trying to find a solution to the problem ( witch many people apparently have ) and with no success . and then i realized that i must be out of my mind. buying a game with well let's be honest many bugs. and trying to find the solution myself. so here i am again asking the people who should have already fixed the problem. or should be able to help us.
my system :
os : Windows 7 32 bit
Intel Q6600
Ati HD4850 512 MB
4096 MB DDR2 memory
500 GB HD
Gigabyte P5K motherboard.
So please help us before i decided to go and kill random people out of frustration - edited January 2011I have a Love Hate relationship with the Total War game Series.
I love the game concept and how CA capture the political, economical and of course military issues of each era. But there is one thing I hate about it, - this freezing up issue. With Rome TW, Barbarian Invasion TW and Medieval II TW it always seemed to have been with seige battles. Back then I was using an older computer with Windows XP and NVidia graphics card. Now with Empire TW and a new PC running Windows Vista 64 Bit I have the exact same problem only with naval battles.
It always happens with the larger crucial battles and it always happens the second I am about to achieve a victory. (You can imagine the frustration when I have to play the same battle 3,4 even 5 times before it succeeds.)
Thank you for the advice in this thread @MadBoris via @Iscaran, - although I am hesitant to make any changes to my PC operating system etc. and the advice appears to be non-applicable to my situation as I am running Win7 x64Bit. I feel this is something CA must sort out and I refuse to buy Napoleon TW or any more of their stuff before they fix this and it is clear on the forums etc. that I won't have these setbacks. - edited January 2011@BernieB
you are right. and you are a smart man for not buying the game before the problems are fixed.
although i don't believe it will be fixed. empire total war was released in 2009 and still the problems with the crashes sound bugs and so forth aren't resolved. of course they were working on the Napoleon total war release but still kinda turning your back on your customers imho. But i have tbh the only problems i have with napoleon total war ( after giving up empire total war because i wasn't helped in any form or way ) is the sound of the game somethings start to buzz but when i do end turn it disappears. and the fact that the game isn't running smoothly in the world map.. battles are running smooth but for some reason when i am in the campaign map i have low FPS.. guess my pc isn't good enough.. ( well let's just say it isn't ).
anyhow.
dont buy the game if you are worried about crashes. although i haven't had one with napoleon total war.. can't say you are also that lucky. The game it self is bloody brilliant. but .. not worth the money if you cant even play it
Power to the people.. oh yeah and i did kill 742 people last week when i did try to fix empire..
greets - Senior MemberPosts: 306Registered UsersIs it a certain file you can not load??
if so then it is most likely a corrupted file.System: AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE - AMD Radeon 5770 1GB - 4GB DDR2 HyperX - 550W PSU - 18.5' Monitor - edited January 2011i do understand that the file is corrupted but the problem is that i am not the only one with the some problem at the end of the grand campaign. so it isn't my pc being an ass and trying to get me in to the sunlight or something.
The problem is. in my experience steam. i used to play Counter-strike played it since the release of the beta's back in 1999 ( the good old times. how i miss them ) and then at some time valve came around with a great idea to buy the MOD from the original makers and started to f*** it up. and them steam came around and it just killed the game.
i do understand the appeal of steam for game developers. i did try to download empire but it was impossible so i do see why they use it it really gets money in to there pockets but all the updates of steam are just not for the games you want to play always they update games i never knew existed so that's not really helping is it. . and never had a problem with any of the total war games until empire.. and mmm what a coincidence that they released it with steam so now i don't only have to install the game form the dvd for 20 min but then i have to download the last 90% of the files from steam for 3 bloody hours to find out that they also messed up this game.
anyhow I'm buying a new PC in a few months. April i guess a i7, ATI HD6600 ect ect pc let's see how it will work on that one. SO I CAN BE 100% SURE !!! it's not my PC..
and i do really hope that they will release Shogun without steam. but i do fear a empire/napoleon all over again and what will be the end of the Total war series one day..
greets - Senior MemberPosts: 306Registered UsersSorry mate but shogun 2 will most likely be released with steam..
a corrupted file is useless so you might as well just delete it. and i dont think getting a new pc yould help you to not get corrupted files.System: AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE - AMD Radeon 5770 1GB - 4GB DDR2 HyperX - 550W PSU - 18.5' Monitor - edited January 2011Sorry mate but shogun 2 will most likely be released with steam..

yeah i know a getting a new pc wont fix the problem.
i just really cant understand how in the hell this problem isn't fixed ( as i am not the only person who has this problem around the end of the grand campaign. )
anyhow because i do really have faith in the makers of the total war saga i will give it one last go. but you do agree that it's kinda *PEEEP* up that after 2 years the problems still need to be fixed.
Anyhow about shogun 2 total war being released on steam i know that it will be.. i just really.. really hate steam. great idea, one sad release. anyhow i will give it one last go. But if i get another 'corrupted' file at the end of my grand campaign i will burn the dvd's in the way of the old country.. if there is a way 0_o
anyhow thanks for all the idea's on how to fix the problems *achum* and i will let you guys know how it all works out . And ill let you all know how my new system Handles the games including Shogun 2 total war.yeah i know after all this flaming and online-heroism i'm still going to buy the game. i know i am just hooked on killing other factions then my own in big landscapes with lot's of screaming and such.. i do hope there will be blood in shogun 2 total war.. do kinda miss that in the Total war saga -_-
Here is my system that i am using now and the one i will have in the future.
